Schuylkill Watershed Citizens Support Land Conservation

  • 88% of the respondents said that land conservation should keep pace with land development
  • 84% said that there are economic benefits to preserving open space
  • 82% of those surveyed said that they would pay more for a new home if it had parks and /or natural areas nearby
  • 90% of those surveyed support the purchase of land for public parks and natural areas by their county or municipality as a way to improve their environment
  • 86% support an increase in government efforts to curb sprawl and over-development
  • 91% of the respondents support an increase in public funding for open space and natural areas protection

Schuylkill Watershed Residents Want to Protect Their water Quality

  • 66% of the respondents said that there is currently not enough being done to protect their community's water quality
  • 93% of those surveyed would support county or municipal requirements that developers set aside greenspace buffers along rivers and streams
  • 93% support an increase in public funding to improve their local water quality
  • 93% support increased public funding for the restoration of degraded rivers and streams

Schuylkill Watershed Citizens Want More Local, Outdoor Recreational Opportunities

  • 93% of the respondents support the development of walking trails and bicycle paths by their county or municipality
  • 87% support an increased public funding for the development of trails and pathways

Schuylkill Watershed Citizens Are Calling for More Environmental Education Programs

  • 88% of those surveyed support increased public funding for environmental education programs
  • 86% said that there should be more environmental education programs for adults and children
  • 43% responded that their local high school should be responsible for providing environmental education programs
